Being a good neighbor

Posted by Randy Cornell on October 28, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Early this morning (after 1:00 AM) I was awakened by shouting coming from the B Building parking lot. Someone was in a state--whether angry or intoxicated, he was making enough noise to awaken a sound sleeper on the fifth floor. The  noise only lasted for less than a minute; but I can imagine a light or a fitful sleeper lying awake long after the noise had stopped.

I understand that different people have different sleep schedules, and that some noise is spontaneous and unavoidable. But it seems that simple neighborliness would dictate that a tenant not create a disturbance that might wake a neighbor long after most folks have gone to sleep. Let's try to be more thoughtful, so that everyone can get the rest that they need.

What do you think? How can we help to reduce this sort of noise near our homes?
